Oatmeal with Banana Milk and Berry Sauce, inspired by Я люблю тебя in Sochi

Creamy oat porridge cooked in homemade banana milk, with a quick no-sugar berry sauce, banana, orange and sliced almonds.

Inspired by Каша овсяная (oat porridge) at Я люблю тебя (I Love You café), Sochi, Russia. Ingredients from its own menu (the café's own site, read 2026-10-11); the amounts and steps are ours, not the restaurant's recipe.

Oatmeal with Banana Milk and Berry Sauce, inspired by Я люблю тебя in Sochi

Ingredients

For 1 serving.

Method

  1. Blend half a banana with the water until smooth: this is your banana milk.

    2 min

  2. Pour the banana milk into a small pot, add the oats and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

    3 min

  3. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring often, until thick and creamy; add a splash of water if it gets too thick.

    6 min

  4. Meanwhile, simmer the raspberries and black currants with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of water for 3 to 4 minutes, mashing them into a loose sauce. No sugar needed.

    4 min

  5. Spoon the porridge into a bowl, drizzle the berry sauce over it and top with the banana slices, orange slices, sliced almonds and mint.

Tips

  • A very ripe banana gives the sweetest banana milk.
  • Frozen berries work just as well as fresh ones for the sauce.

Notes

Our version of a dish Ely ate at Я люблю тебя, a vegan café in Sochi that cooks without sugar or animal products.
